Applications for GMC Chair of Council

Applications for the GMC's new Chair of Council are open from 16 November until 13 December to both lay and medical candidates, across the four countries of the UK. You can find find more information about the role and application process on GatenbySanderson’s website (from 16 Nov)

From the GMC:

Leading us towards more effective and compassionate regulation

Our new Chair will join us at a critical point for our 2021-25 strategy, helping us become a more effective and compassionate regulator for patients, the public and doctors; and, in the future, physician associates and anaesthesia associates. They’ll have a key role to play in our efforts to support the development of a more sustainable medical workforce for the future. And in enabling supportive, inclusive healthcare environments that deliver safe patient care across all four countries of the UK. They’ll lead our response to the UK government’s reform of healthcare professional regulation, and the legislation which underpins all that we do. As we emerge from the pandemic - and what has been a very difficult period for patients and medical professionals alike - we’re looking for someone with high personal credibility, strong diplomatic skills and the ability to build and manage effective relationships.

Fairness at the heart of what we do

The successful applicant will champion our work to address inequality, embrace diversity and support inclusion within the UK’s healthcare system. We’re also taking a range of steps to encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates.

The new Chair will succeed Dame Clare Marx, who stepped down from the role earlier this year.
