Academy of Medical Educators Draft Curriculum Information 19 September 2007
This curriculum information represents the contributions of many educators from all levels of medical education and from across the UK. We recognise that this is not a final product, but simply a stage in the evolution of a comprehensive approach to understanding the career-long learning needs of educators in the health professions. Please note:
- This framework aims to guide both novices (learning to be educators) and experienced educators (CPD).
- We have chosen educational roles as themes, rather than other conceptual groupings of potential curriculum information. We believe that this may help the many different kinds of educators to see how they may develop within current roles as well as adopt new roles.
- We have chosen three levels of achievement - basic, intermediate and advanced. We hope that everybody looking at this framework will recognise themselves at certain levels, and also that the more experienced of us will see skill sets that they are yet to achieve. Just how these levels are reflected in membership levels is for the incoming Council to determine.
We recognise that just how to present this information is itself a debate, but at this stage we are placing the information in the public domain and seeking feedback on omissions, possible additions, better wording, and what related to each level. A further curriculum development workshop is planned to be held by the end of the year to take this work further. In the meantime, please send feedback to info@medicaleducators.org.
