Career support

The Academy's Early Careers Group is active in addressing the concerns and issues affecting those starting on, or early in, their careers as medical, dental or veterinary educators.  The group has a programme of mentoring support schemes, research into early careers and the development of career case studies Image lo
A research project is ongoing looking at challenges and supportive systems to medical, dental and veterinary education career progression, in line with the Professional Standards, to develop effective policy for dissemination through AoME and its partners. Further work is being done to support Foundation Doctors who are involved in teaching, and in defining the capabilities and competences expected of doctors in training who facilitate learning and assessment. The next steps include the development of draft standards and guidance and the ultimate development of tools and resources to support junior educators in the supervision of others.
In addition to its various workstreams the group holds regular successful conference workshops, training events and consultation and networking meetings.  In addition the group administers a successful mentoring scheme for our Members and Fellows who want to take the next steps in their career with the support of a senior colleague.
Members and Fellows interested in becoming involved in this friendly and energetic group are always welcome; for more information on how to get involved, please contact the Academy Office (info@medicaleducators.org) in the first instance.
